Brumbies ready for onslaught

Under Eddie Jones the Reds have transformed themselves into a tightly disciplined unit, who are ready to make the hard yards upfront in order to go for the win out wide.

Brumbies coach Laurie Fisher has prepared his side for such a Reds onslaught, when the Brumbies go to Brisbane on Saturday for their Super 14 derby.

“They were able to suck in the Crusaders a few times, and certainly the Hurricanes the week before and then find some space on the edges,” Fisher said.

“They are very effective with what they’ve been doing, which will be an enormous challenge for us defensively.”

Brumbies flanker Julian Salvi is out injured, but that has allowed for the taller and bulkier Adam Wallace-Harrison, who is also comfortable at lock, to take his place in the Brumbies back row.

“The Reds have got a very challenging lineout, a lot of height there, and a lot of drive from their lineout as well, so I think that extra size will be to our advantage,” Fisher said.

Brumbies captain, centre Stirling Mortlock is also in the side, returning from a head injury. He expects a tough match.

“We’ve managed to have a very good record against the Reds for a number of years,” Mortlock said.

“This time, their form has been improved at the start of the season compared to what it usually is and our form has been a little bit indifferent.

“The way the Reds have played the first two matches, it will be a very tough battle for our forwards, similar to what we faced in tough conditions against Auckland last weekend.”
