Bristol confirm signing of new duo

Bristol Rugby Head Coach Paul Hull has added to his forward options for next season with the signings of hooker Ross Johnson from the Cardiff Blues and number eight Dan Montagu from National League One side Nottingham.

23 year old Johnson joined the Bues on an Academy contract in 2006 and was part of the Cardiff RFC squad that reached the final of the Konica Minolta Cup Final in 2006-7. A Welsh international at U16, U18 and U19 level, he has made 7 appearances in total for the Blues.

Australian Montagu, a product of the Leicester Tigers academy, has been in outstanding form for Nottingham this season. A strong ball carrier who is equally at home at blindside flanker, the 26 year old who has also had a spell with Doncaster Knights, has scored 11 tries in 72 appearances for the Green and Whites.

Hull confirmed that the new signings will offer him more selection choices next season.

“It’s important that we keep moving forward and Ross and Dan are two young forwards who we believe have the potential to make an impact with Bristol next season.”

“Ross will challenge David Blaney and Ollie Hayes for the starting hooker berth next season and Dan’s signing gives us another big, ball carrying back row forward.”
