Bristol Rugby retain the Team Brain

Bristol Rugby’s player recruitment has been ongoing for a couple of weeks now but the focus has switched to the coaching staff today with the news that Assistant Coach John Brain has extended his contract by a year.

John joined Bristol Rugby for the 2007-8 season having spent almost six years at Worcester Warriors.

He joined Worcester as Head Coach in July 2001, became Director of Rugby in 2002 and went on to mastermind Worcester’s promotion to the Guinness Premiership with an unprecedented 26 wins from 26 matches in 2003-4. He coached Worcester to Premiership survival in 2006-7 ensuring a fourth season in the top flight.

Prior to joining Worcester, John spent 20 years at Gloucester making 285 appearances before joining the coaching team working alongside the likes of Richard Hill and Phillippe Saint-Andre.

John has a massive reputation as a forwards coach but it’s not just those qualities that Bristol Rugby Head Coach Paul Hull values:

“John has a superb track record as a forwards coach. But he’s also been a Head Coach and Director of Rugby in his own right at Worcester and his input and advice are extremely valuable to me.”

“I’m absolutely delighted that he’ll continue to be at my side next season.”

John added:”It’s good to get everything sorted so early. I can now focus on the rest of the season and continue with my planning for 2009-10.”

“Paul and I have spoken a lot over the past couple of weeks about the future for Bristol Rugby and I’m extremely happy with the direction that the club is heading in and to commit myself to the cause.”
