Bristol hold on to England prop

Following the news earlier this week that six players had renewed their contracts with Bristol Rugby, Head Coach Paul Hull announced today that prop Darren Crompton has also committed himself to the club.

Chris Ashwin, Ed Barnes, David Blaney, Mark Irish, Redford Pennycook and Roy Winters all signed new deals this week and the news that Crompton has put pen to paper on a new two year deal is a further boost.

Hull confirmed:”DC has been a cornerstone of our pack for some time. He provides a wealth of experience in the front row and it’s great news that he’ll be with us for the next two seasons.”

Crompton himself admitted that he was delighted to sort out his playing future.

“I was very happy to sign. Hully (Paul Hull) has only been in charge for a couple of weeks now but what I’ve seen and what he’s told me about his plans for the club made it an easy decision.”

I’ve been here at Bristol for the majority of my playing career and am really pleased that it’s all been sorted so that I can concentrate on the remaining fixtures this season.”

Crompton initially joined Bristol from Richmond for the 1999-2000 season and has been with the club ever since apart from 2003-4 when he played for Cardiff Blues.

Only Paul Hull has made more league appearances for the club but Crompton is closing in rapidly on that record and may well surpass it by the end of the season.

He was also capped by England on their 2007 tour to South Africa.
