Robinson settling in with Sale again

Next season’s Sale Head Coach Jason Robinson and Forwards’ Coach Phil Keith-Roach were introduced to the Rugby Media at Edgeley Park this afternoon, with the Sharks’ former captain and dual-code international Robinson revealing that he wanted to pass on the benefits of his experience to the players – but only after considerable thought and prayer with his family.

Questioned over a previous statement that he would never become a coach, Robinson replied, “Times have changed – I did once say I’d never play Rugby Union.

“What I’ve learned from this is to, “Never say ‘Never’ !” The offer caught me off guard, to be honest, but life’s about challenges and working with Kingsley, Phil and the other coaches is an opportunity not to be missed.”

He continued, “It’s going to be different (coaching former playing colleagues) but it’s a mutual resect and a ‘work in progress’. I’m sure I can add something to what is a very good side at the moment. Having seventeen years at the top in both codes, what I’ve gained over the years, I can’t just bury.”

Kingsley Jones added that Jason is “back for rugby reasons. I want people I can trust, with the same attitudes as myself. Jason is hardworking, a winner, he’s humble and honest.”

Kingsley revealed that Forwards’ Coach Phil Keith-Roach has been informally helping him with analysis for some time. Phil said , “I’m very pleased to get this formal request from Kingsley.

“I’ve taken quite an interest in the Sharks’ scrum for five years (while working as an independent consultant) so I don’t feel I’m starting completely from scratch. I know I want to work with the Sale forwards.”
