Simon Taylor celebrates 50-up

Simon Taylor celebrated his 50th cap with a win and was full of praise for captain Chris Paterson who kicked Scotland to victory over Wales at Murrayfield.

Paterson claimed all Scotland’s points in a 21-9 Six Nations Championship victory, which lifted spirits among home supporters after last weekend’s loss against England.

“Both teams were desperate for a win today and we managed to eke it out,” said Taylor to BBC Sport.

“It wasn’t the best of games but it’s nice to come out of it with a win.”

“He’s (Chris Paterson’s) been kicking brilliantly the last couple of years, we can really rely on him I think.

“He’s some man. They were giving away a few penalties and he just steps up.

“We can maybe relax for a couple of days and get back into training and look forward to the Italy game.

“(We’ve got) three more games, two more home games. Today’s performance was something to build on. It certainly wasn’t perfect but we toughed it out.”

Scotland head coach Frank Hadden was impressed by the tenacity of his team in a match which featured no tries.

“There’s a lot of pressure on the boys and I’m just proud of the way they controlled the game,” he said.

“I felt the better side won on the day.

“There was only one side which looked like scoring tries today and that was us, and it was disappointing not to nail that down.”

“What winning does for your confidence is just immense.

“I felt we controlled the game quite beautifully.

“When you see some of our most experienced players coming back from injury – guys like Nathan Hines, Ally Hogg, and Simon Webster coming off the bench today for little cameo roles – there’s more to come from this side.”
