New management structure for Bristol Rugby

Bristol Rugby Club has today confirmed a new structure following the club’s recent fundraising exercise.

Chris Booy will assume the role as Chairman with immediate effect and said: “The critical thing for us was to raise enough funding to ensure the club’s future and I would like to thank all existing and new Investors for their support in this.”

“With this now done we need to stabilise the club’s financial position going forward, but our immediate focus is on beating Newcastle at the Memorial Stadium on Friday night and working towards our Premiership survival.”

John Laycock who also played a key role in the re-financing exercise will take the role of Deputy Chairman and added:”There is a lot to do and we will start with securing player contracts for next season and build a stable base for the future.”

Other changes will see John Portch return from retirement as Deputy Chief Executive to support Steve Gorvett.

Steve said:”The Directors are working on a detailed plan for the future and it is our intention to present this to Supporters, the Supporters Trust, Sponsors and Business Partners as soon as we can – the most likely date for this will be towards the end of February.”

“Key to the immediate future is which league we are likely to be playing in, and whilst we are planning for all eventualities, I am confident that with everyone behind us that we will stay up.”

“With such a lot riding on next Friday’s result we have seen a big demand for tickets, although we do have some left and the side want nothing other than a full house roaring us on to a vital win. ”
