Cheetahs release Barnard to Toulon

Cheetahs utility back Conrad Barnard has been released from his contract to join French club Toulon. Barnard, who has played both for Cheetahs and Griquas, was one of the three flyhalves that the Cheetahs had contracted for the season.

His departure meanse that the franchise’s reserves will be further depleted ahead of the Super 14.

“Conrad came to me this week to talk about the situation, after which I discussed the matter with my backline coach Hawies Fourie and we decided to let him go,” Cheetahs coach Naka Drotske told Afrikaans Sunday newspaper Sondag.

The Cheetahs will be looking for solid performances from Naas Olivier and Jacques-Louis Potgieter in the Super 14 although it seems that Meyer Bosman is earmarked for the flyhalf berth.
