Italy’s preparations for their trip to Twickenham to take on England in this Saturday’s Six Nations clash, have been hit by the withdrawal of two key players.
Mauro Bergamasco, capped 55 times and one of the greats of Italian rugby history, and strong centre Andrea Masi with 29 caps, who performed well in defeat last weekend, are both carrying injuries from that match with France.
The team is scheduled to fly from Rome on Thursday, and two back-up players have been included in the squad – flank Robert Barbieri, who has three caps, and three-quarter Matteo Pratichetti, who is 21 and who gained his only cap against the All Blacks in 2004.
