Winters back as Bristol look to spring into 2009

Entering 2009 seeking the points to guide his team to Guinness Premiership safety, Bristol Rugby Head Coach Richard Hill makes changes to his pack for the trip to Northampton Saints including welcoming back second row Roy Winters.

The two teams have already met an incredible four times so far this season in competitive action – once in the Guinness Premiership, once in the EDF Energy Cup and twice in the European Challenge Cup.

So, the two teams know each other well by now and Bristol will be looking to leave Franklins Gardens with a win having been unsuccessful on their first two visits this season.

The backline is unchanged from the Christmas game against Gloucester, however, Hill makes changes to his forwards.

Jason Hobson is ruled out through injury so Darren Crompton reverts to his usual tight head position and Mark Irish comes in at loose head.

And, in the second row, Roy Winters returns having missed the whole of December due to an injury picked up in the home fixture against London Irish.

On the bench, Wayne Thompson features for the first time since playing for Oxford University in their Varsity victory and there are returns for Matt Salter and Chris Ashwin.

Replacements:
