Video evidence on Rougerie try awards Clermont victory in

An Aurelien Rougerie try given after video evidence right at the end of the match earned Clermont a 20-16 victory at Dax in a French Top 14 championship fixture on Friday night.

The result helped Clermont keep on course for eventually making the semi-finals after this match where they trailed for almost the whole game although having territorial advantage.

Dax’s defence was in good form however, they hit three drop goals from David Bortolussi and Antoine Vignau-Tuquet (2), and the disappointment of not winning was probably not softened by the gaining of a defensive bonus point.

Dax got off to a great start, scoring a try in the 12th minute through Fijian Neumi Nanuku, who ran 80 metres to score on the counter attack, converted by Vignau-Tuquet. Bortolussi put them further ahead in the 19th minute with a drop goal.

Clermont wasted little time in hitting back however, scoring a try through Rougerie two minutes later, converted by Australian fly-half Brock James, who then went on to kick over a successful drop goal to level at 10-10.

Vignau-Tuquet scored two drop goals after the break, but Clermont’s further penalty from James and the late, converted try from Rougerie settled the issue.
