Ireland down Argentina at Croke park

Ronan O’Gara scored 12 points and provided a crossfield kick for Tommy Bowe to score the only try as Ireland beat Argentina 17-3 on Saturday to guarantee a seeding spot in the Rugby World Cup draw.

In a bad-tempered game at Croke Park, Argentina took the lead late in the first half through replacement kicker Santiago Fernandez but then conceded 17 points with O’Gara kicking three penalties and a drop goal.

The Irish led 12-3 when O’Gara picked out Bowe with a huge crossfield kick and the winger, unmarked out on the right, was unchallenged as he went over.

The result not only stopped Argentina beating the Irish for the fourth time in a row, it made sure that Ireland will join the Pumas among the seeds in the draw for the 2011 World Cup in New Zealand.
