Bristol pip Saints at the death

A late try from Luke Eves (pictured) helped Bristol edge the Nothampton Saints 14-13 in a fiercely contested Guinness Premiership fixture on Sunday.

Adrian Jarvis could have put the home side ahead in the third minute, but the Bristol flyhalf missed his penalty attempt.

Stephen Myler then succeeded with a penalty of his own to give the Saints a 0-3 lead.

After 20 minutes big number eight Dan Ward-Smith crashed over for the first five-pointer and Jarvis added the extra two to make it 7-3.

The lead however lasted just three minutes as James Downey scored with Myler adding the conversion to make it 7-10 at the break.

Saints then drew first blood in the second half as Myler’s boot proved trusty with another three-points.

Bristol however edged into the lead with ten minutes to go when substitute Luke Eves scored.

Ed Barnes’ conversion made it 14-13 in favour of the hosts who held out for the win.
