Tigers snap up travelling Albi prop

Leicester Tigers have signed former England U21 prop Boris Stankovich from French club Albi for next Guinness Premiership season.

Stankovich is something of a journeyman, having been born in New Zealand but winning England caps at both U19 and U21 level before he headed to France.

Stankovich has been one of the mainstays of the Albi pack that has helped the tiny club defy expectations to hold its own in the Top 14 this season.

“Boris has plied his trade in France for five years, which everybody knows is a pretty testing environment,” said Tigers forwards coach Richard Cockerill.

“He is a good find for us, it shows our scouting system is working well and we are happy to have him.

“He has a huge amount of potential, he is the right age for us and it made perfect sense to bring him to Welford Road, especially with the Rugby World Cup coming up early next season when we will lose some of our front-row players.”
