Anglo Welsh Cup semis between Welsh and English teams

Fittingly the Anglo Welsh Cup Semi finals will be decided when two Welsh teams will go up against two English teams.

Gloucester face the Ospreys, while Cardiff Blues are up against Northampton in Sunday’s draw following the final round of group games.

Both semi-finals will be played back-to-back at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena on Saturday, 28 March 2009.

The Ospreys are the defending champions having beaten Leicester in the final last year and they went through thanks to a losing bonus point in their 23-19 defeat to London Irish.

Gloucester’s late try in their 11-10 victory over Newcastle bumped out Wasps in Group A.

“That’s a good draw,” Ospreys coach Sean Holley told the BBC.

“There’s an English-Welsh flavour to both semis which makes the interest in this competition go right down to the wire.

“Delighted to get through into another semi for our fans and for the players and we’ll look forward to that.

“There’s the chance of two Welsh teams in the final now… we played Gloucester in another competition last year and we were one each so let’s play the decider.”

Gloucester and the Ospreys met twice in last season’s Heineken Cup, each winning at home, but they now meet on neutral territory at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena.

Full draw:
Gloucester v Ospreys
Cardiff v Northampton.

Ties to be played at Ricoh Arena, Coventry on Saturday, March 28.
