Gloucester pip Newcastle to earn EDF Energy Cup Semi place

Newcastle were Gloucester’s hosts in the final pool round match of the EDF Energy Cup at Kingston Park where Gloucester ended up winning by 11 points to 10.

Gloucester’s win means that they qualify for the EDF Energy Cup semi final.

Newcastle scored the first try of the match through replacement Jon Golding.

Rob Miller converted the try which gave the Falcons a 1 point lead at 7-6 at half time as Gloucester had only scored two Olly Barkley penalties.

The low scoring match was effectively won by Gloucester when Apo Satala scored Gloucester’s only try in the second half.

All Newcastle could add to their first half score was a penalty by Rory Clegg.
