Another All Black leaves New Zealand for France

Castres Olympique have signed All Blacks back row man Chris Masoe and expect to introduce him to their fans ahead of this weekend’s Top 14 game against Montpellier.

Masoe played for the Hurricanes in the Super 14 and plays all three loose-forward positions but has been concentrating on the openside flanker’s role.

He has been a regular member of the New Zealand Sevens squad in the past and a member of the 2002 Commonwealth Games gold-winning team.

Masoe will join fellow New Zealand 2007 World Cup squad members Byron Kelleher and Jerry Collins in playing in the Top 14.

They will soon be joined by Dan Carter, who is joining Perpignan for a short period.

Masoe, who was born in Samoa, won 15 caps for the All Blacks and will join Castres from NPC runners-up Wellington.

Masoe will be available for the next phase of the Heineken Cup, when Castres play back-to-back games against Leinster, if the French club register him for Europe.

Castres have yet to win a match in Pool 2 this season.
