Cardiff give Leicester the Blues

Cardiff Blues continued their winning streak on Saturday by beating  Leicester Tigers 23 -9 at the Arms Park.

Leicester could only manage three penalties through Derick Hougaard while Cardiff were able to score two converted tries and three penalties.

Missed chances by Tigers flyhalf Derick Hougaard and taken chances by Ben Blair in the Blues camp ensured a decent win for the home side.

Cardiff got on the scoreboard first when fullback Blair slotted a penalty in the sixth minute. He added another eight minutes later to make it 6-0 early on.

Halfway through the session the Tigers had a chance to pull three points back, but South African Hougaard was unable to put the ball between the posts.

He did manage to succeed with his second attempt though, putting the score on 6-3 on the brink of half time.

After a slow start to the second stanza, Cardiff scored the first try of the match in the 45th minute. Jamie Robinson crossed the line and Blair converted to add the two extra points. Hougaard slotted a penalty minutes later to keep the Tigers in the hunt at 13-6.

Hougaard’s day did not improve when he missed another penalty in the 59th minute, but he did get it right in the 67th to take the score to 13-9. Blair slotted his third penalty five minutes later though, nullifying Hougaard’s effort.

Jason spice put the final nail in the coffin in the 78th minute with his try, which Blair again converted to end the day on 23-9 and leave Heyneke Meyer’s men ruing lost chances.
