Two more centurions for the Reds

Reds coach Eddie Jones has selected veterans Sean Hardman (at hooker) and Ben Tune (outside centre) for their 100th Queensland state matches on Saturday.

The Reds are up against last year’s Super 14 runners-up, the ever-offensive Hurricanes, and experience such as that of the two Queensland legends may just prove pivotal – if they are able to blend it with the energy and vigour that Super rugby requires.

The duo will mark this occasion at home in Brisbane, when both teams open their 2007 accounts at the Suncorp Stadium.

The Reds will field a near Test-strength forward pack against the Hurricanes.

In the backs Andrew Brown has been called in to partner Tune in the centres and Rugby League convert Clinton Schifcofske will make his Super 14 debut.

Scrum-half Nic Berry has shaken off a strong pre-season challenge from rookie Will Genia to be named in the run-on side, with Genia named on the bench.

Uncapped rookies, centre Charlie Fetoai and winger Brando Va’alu have also been named on the bench.

The Hurricanes are always hard to stop out wide, but if a strong Reds pack can tilt the possession stakes the home side’s way, then Reds coach Eddie Jones will believe that a victory against a strong New Zealand outfit is well within reach.

The Reds: 15 Clinton Schifcofske, 14 Henari Veratau, 13 Ben Tune, 12 Andrew Brown, 11 Peter Hynes, 10 Berrick Barnes, 9 Nic Berry, 8 John Roe (captain), 7 David Croft, 6 Mitch Chapman, 5 Hugh McMeniman, 4 James Horwill, 3 Rodney Blake, 2 Sean Hardman, 1 Greg Holmes
