Stormers star faces lengthy lay-off

Stormers scrum-half Paul Delport is set for a lengthy period on the sidelines, after it was confirmed on Monday that the young star has glandular fever.

It was revealed that he will be unable to train with the Stormers squad for an indefinite period.

Delport was admitted to hospital last Thursday, where he underwent blood tests to diagnose the viral infection he had suffered.

He will remain in hospital for at least another week. According to a Stormers spokesman Delport was very ill.

He would require a lengthy period of absolute rest, before being allowed to train with the squad for the Super 14 competition. But it is unsure if he’ll be available for the start of the competition in February.

The Stormers’ medical team will keep a close watch on Delport’s progress and will take no chances with the health of the former SA Under-19 and Under-21 captain.
