England’s Robinson heading for the door

The BBC is reporting that England coach Andy Robinson has had his last game as England coach. They say that a “well-placed” source told the BBC that Robinson will be asked to resign or be sacked.

Robinson has lost 13 of his 22 matches in charge of England and have slumped to seventh in the World rankings under his management. Also under his rule England equaled a run of defeats.

The current favourite to replace Robinson is World Cup-winning captain Martin Johnson but he has not coached before. The other names in the mix are Wasps and Ireland coach Warren Gatland or ex-South Africa coach Nick Mallett

Mallet would be a good choice as he has good knowlegde of the French and the South Africans. Oxford educated Mallet however has always insisted that he wants to be close to his family.

Robinson’s team were booed off the pitch by the Twickenham crowd for the second time in three matches after their 25-14 defeat against South Africa on Saturday but Robinson insisted he would not step down.
