Samoa to prepare for RWC in SA

The rugby team of Manu Samoa will tour South Africa early in January next year as part of their preparations for Rugby World Cup 2007.

Samoa’s South African representative, Willem Strauss, confirmed that Samoa will play three matches on tour in South Africa against a combined team of the Pumas/Lions in White River (January 6), the Blue Bulls in Polokwane (January 10) and the Cheetahs Super 14 team in Kimberley (January 13).

Samoa’s CEO, Tuilagi Saipele Esera said that Samoa will use their Southern Hemisphere tour, which also includes games against the Reds (January 20) and the Western Force (January 25), to blood new players in preparation for the Rugby World Cup.

Samoa are drawn in the same pool as the Springboks for the Rugby World Cup in France.

Before that they will play the Boks at Ellis Park on the June 9.

Strauss also said that while they are in South Africa, Samoa, who are coached by the legendary All Black Michael Jones, will conduct a number of coaching clinics at schools in the previously disadvantaged communities.
