Plumtree said it is “fantastic” to be back in Durban.
“I always had the intention of coaching the Sharks at some stage of my career and the Sharks have always held a special place in my heart,” Plumtree said on sharksrugby.co.za.
Plumtree, a former flanker, will focus on the Sharks forward play, and the Sharks will be hoping he can continue his career successes in his new role with the Durban franchise.
The Sharks would also be keen to capitalize upon the young talent developed by their Academy system.
Players who have been handled by the Sharks youth system this year include Springbok Francois Steyn, who only left school last year, as well as another SA Rugby award-winner, Keegan Daniel. Other notable players include JP Pietersen, Bradley Barritt and Ryan Kankowski.
The Sharks have also recently signed rookie Lions scrumhalf,Ryan Kockott, who made his Currie Cup debut this year. The Sharks managed to secure his services despite the Bulls also offering him a Super 14 contract.
