England sweat on Hodgson and Sheridan

England stars Charlie Hodgson and Andrew Sheridan both look unlikely to feature in next weekend’s second Test against South Africa after leaving Twickenham on crutches following England’s 23-21 win over the Springboks on Saturday.

The Sale Sharks duo, who have both been sent back to their club for treatment, were injured either side of half-time.

Fly-half Hodgson was stretchered off shortly before the break with what an England team spokesperson later confirmed was a right knee injury.

Prop forward Sheridan exited the field in the same way with a left ankle problem, the spokesperson added.

The pair are both due to have scans on Sunday and consult a specialist Monday.

World Cup holders England return to Twickenham a week Saturday to complete their November programme with a second clash against the Springboks.

In the duo’s absence, England came from behind to complete a victory which ended their seven-Test losing streak.
