Fiji to request to host RWC games in 2011

The Fiji Rugby Union will put a request to the New Zealand Rugby Football Union to host a few games in Fiji during the 2011 Rugby World Cup which New Zealand will host.

FRU’s Acting CEO, Ratu Timoci Tavanavanua has said thatthey will put in a request to the NZRFU. Fijido not have the facilities at this stagebut they would have more than enough time tomeet the requirements.

Against all odds New Zealand won the right to host the Rugby World cup in 2011. One of their arguments was that if they were given the right to host the RWC in 2011 it would help develop rugby in the Pacific Islands.

Giving a few minor games to Fiji would give rugby in Fiji a major boost and would show that NZ is interested in helping the Pacific Islanders rugby.

The All Blacks have had Fijians in their rugby team for many years but have not played a test in the islands for a very long time.
