Bristol Rugby Head Coach Richard Hill has maintained his track record of looking for rugby talent in National League Division One with the signings of scrum half Sam Alford (Cornish All Blacks) and fly half Chris Ashwin (Newbury).
It’s a tactic that has paid handsome dividends for Bristol in recent times with the likes of Luke and Tom Arscott, Ed Barnes, Shaun Perry, Lee Robinson, Alfie To’oala and Dan Ward-Smith all stepping up to the Premiership from Division One.
In addition, a number of Bristol’s first team squad in recent seasons all made their breakthrough whilst the club competed in Division One in 2003-4 and 2004-5.
Hill said today:”Sam and Chris are young prospects who show potential for the future. They’ve both featured regularly for Launceston and Newbury respectively in National League Division One so they’ve gained some valuable experience at that level.”
