Wilko set for another comeback

Jonny Wilkinson looks set to make another injury comeback when Newcastle host Bristol in Friday’s Guinness Premiership fixture. Wilkinson, now 27, has not played for England since 2003 and has been sidelined since 8 September with medial knee ligament damage but has returned to full training.

“At this stage Jonny will definitely be in the 22,” said Newcastle director of rugby John Fletcher.

“He has been in the team training for a week,” Fletcher added.

“He was pretty close to playing Brive last Saturday but we felt that wasn’t the right time so we have waited the extra week.

“We are waiting to find out whether or not we will get Toby Flood back from England, and obviously that could affect the make-up of the team.

“Jonny is not someone who sits and mopes around when he’s injured, he trains hard and does every single thing to make sure he is in great condition for when he does come back.”
