Former Wallaby Ella gets job with Fiji

Former Wallabies star Glen Ella has been employed by the Fiji Rugby Union as a technical advisor.

The two-year deal means Ella will work with the coaches of Fiji’s Test and sevens sides, as well as assisting with the country’s teams in the Pacific Nations Cup and junior world championship according to FijiLive.

“I have long admired Fijian rugby,” Ella said in an FRU statement.

“I’m really looking forward to working with the natural rugby talent that is in abundance in this country.”

Ella was an assistant to Eddie Jones when Australia finished runners-up at the 2003 Rugby World Cup, and was a long-time coach of the Australian sevens side.

He also coached Japan to the Asian Championship title in 1996.

Ella played four Tests for the Wallabies during the 1980s.

“Glen adds a new dimension to the HPU (high performance unit),” FRU chief executive Timoci Tavanavanua said.

“He comes to Fiji with 15 years’ coaching experience at the highest of levels with the Australian Rugby Union. He’s a tremendous asset to have on board.”
