British Lions to announce Head Coach

The British & Irish Lions are set to announce who is to take charge of the 2009 tour to New Zealand on 14th May 2008 with Wasps head coach and Lions legend Ian McGeechan hotly tipped to take the role.

The announcement has been scheduled to take place after the end of the regular league season for the Guinness Premiership clubs and it is believed that this could be significant in the timing of the announcement, even though Wasps are looking likely to finish in the play off places.

Wasps head coach McGeechan has previously coached the Lions on three occasions, two of those as the head coach including the 2-1 series win the last time the Lions visited South Africa in 1997.

McGeechan featured as a senior coach on the last unsuccessful ‘black-washed’ tour to New Zealand in 2005, although his ‘midweek’ side remained unbeaten.
