Rabeni gouging ban appeal dismissed

Leicester Fiji centre Seru Rabeni’s appeal against the 14-week ban for gouging was dismissed by the Rugby Football Union (RFU) Thursday.

An RFU disciplinary panel last week found Rabeni guilty of “making illegal contact with the eye area” of Saracens hooker Andy Kyriacou during the Tigers’ 36-23 English Premiership victory on March 15.

The ban means Rabeni will miss the Anglo-Welsh Cup final against the Ospreys at Twickenham on April 12 and the rest of the Premiership campaign, which climaxes with the play-off final on May 31.

The ban, which runs from April 1 until July 7, rules Rabeni, one of the stars of his country’s run to the World Cup quarter-finals last year, out of any potential post-season appearances he may make for either Fiji and/or the Pacific Islands.
