Hamstring sidelines Mametsa

The Vodacom Blue Bulls’ try scoring machine John Mametsa as well as Trompie Nontshinga will be on the injury list for at least two weeks following hamstring injuries.

Mametsa, who was the leading try scorer in last year’s Currie Cup, injured his hamstring early in the first half in Saturday’s match against the Free State and Nontshinga who came on as his replacement also injured his hamstring.

That means they will miss the games against the WP (Pretoria, 5 April) and the Bulldogs (East London, 12 April) but the team doctor Ewoudt van der Linde is optimistic that they will recover in time for the quarter finals of the Vodacom Cup.

Good news is that Marius Delport is making steady progress from his groin injury and Van der Linde said there is a small possibility that he will be able to play against the WP at Loftus on Saturday.

Richard Bands was cleared to play for 30 minutes against the team from Cape Town but Chiliboy Ralepelle will have to wait another four weeks before he will be able to take contact.

Van der Linde said Ralepelle, who started running on Monday, will do a full rehabilitation and that means he will be out for about a month.

Dean Greyling, who was on tour with the Super 14 team, will miss that game against the WP due to a quadricep injury and James van der Walt will be in the pavilion for another two weeks owing to his injured hamstring.
