Corry focused on Wasps double

Leicester Tigers are expecting a bruising Guinness Premiership clash with London Wasps at Welford Road on Saturday. The two sides met in the EDF Energy Cup semi-final at the Millennium Stadium last weekend when the Tigers won 34-24.

Leicester Captain Martin Corry insists that the Tigers will not have it all their own way.

“They will be hurting. The rivalry between the two sides has been going on for a decade,” he said speaking to the Leicester Mercury.

“In the first 20 minutes, we had lots of possession and lots of territory without getting anything,” said Corry.

“Then the points came. We showed what the defence of the EDF Cup meant to us. I was delighted with our attitude.

“The way we started made a statement of intent. We gave away two soft tries but that did not detract from our determination. Every week we do our homework and, when we had the opportunity to target the line-out, we did it.”

The Tigers are still on track for a second successive double of EDF Cup and Guinness Premiership.

But Corry is not looking that far ahead.

“We are not thinking about the final nor the rest of the league season,” he said.

“We shall just be focusing on Wasps again.”

Last year the Tigers were on track for the treble with only the Heineken Cup left and the two teams met in the final and Wasps won easily.

“We have got the hoodoo off our backs about winning the big one-off games against Wasps.” said forwards coach Richard Cockerill.

“We played well and scored some great tries against a very good defence.”
