Cheetahs drop Oelschig & Barnard

Cheetahs scrumhalf Falie Oelschig and flyhalf Conrad Barnard have both been dropped from the team to meet the Waratahs in Sydney on Saturday.

Lock Barend Pieterse (calf injury), prop Kobus Caldo (calf injury and centre JW Jonker (rested) could also not be considered for the match.

“We simply couldn’t gamble with Pieterse, and Jonker has played in every match thus far and needed a rest,” said coach Naka Drotske from Sydney Tuesday.

Oelschig’s lack of discipline against the Brumbies last weekend probably cost him his place in the team and the Cheetahs will take the field with a new halfback combination in Jacques-Louis Portgieter and Twis de Bruyn. Oelschig will, however, be on the bench.

In mid-field Drotske has also opted for big Hendrik Meyer to partner Wessel Bosman. It is believed the Waratahs will play Loti Tuqiri at outside centre and it will be Meyer’s job to keep the Aussie flyer in check.

CJ van der Linde will replaces Caldo who has already returned home.

Griquas’ Bees Roux has joined the team as a replacement, and David de Villiers has replaced Pieterse.

The Cheetahs team:

Hennie Daniller; Eddie Fredericks, Hendrik Meyer, Meyer Bosman, Jongi Nokwe, Jacques-Louis Potgieter, Tewis de Bruyn; Duanne Vermeulen, Darron Nel, Heinrich Brussow, David de Villiers, Rory Duncan (c), CJ van der Linde, Adriaan Strauss, Wian du Preez.
