Casey commits to London Irish

London Irish received the perfect encouragement today ahead of this Sunday’s record breaking, Saint Patrick’s celebration match with London Wasps with the news that Club Captain Bob Casey has signed a new four year contract that will keep him with the Exiles until the end of the 2011-12 season.

Bob joined London Irish in July 2002 from Leinster and has played 147 games for the club scoring six tries.

He has contributed greatly to the performance of the Exiles’ pack where his partnership with Nick Kennedy, Kieran Roche and James Hudson, made the Irish lineout the most effective in the Guinness Premiership last season.

He was appointed club captain at the start of the season and his leadership qualities have been much in evidence as he has led the Exiles to the quarter-final stages of the Heineken Cup for the first time in the club’s history.

Commenting on his new contract, Bob said: “I’m delighted to be able to commit the next four years of my playing career to London Irish. I feel we have the squad, management and supporters now to become a top Guinness Premiership and Heineken Cup side. I’m really looking forward to us competing for and winning some silverware.”

London Irish’s Director of Rugby Brian Smith said: “Bob is a terrific asset to the club both on and off the field. He plays his heart out week in, week out and is a wonderful leader in the changing room. Bob is still a dominant force in the Guinness Premiership and the Heineken Cup and it’s bewildering that he’s not played more for Ireland.”
