Cheetahs lose Juan Smith

Cheetahs captain Juan Smith will miss the Cheetahs’ four match Super 14 tour of Australasia due to a knee injury that he picked up against the Blues on Saturday.

A further blow for the Cheetahs is that they have also lost fly-half Jacques-Louis Potgieter and wing Gavin Passens.

Smith is expected to be out for three weeks as will Passens and Potgieter with hamstring and groin injuries respectively.

Smith was in top form at the world cup and he will be sorely missed by the Cheetahs who play the Chiefs in Hamilton this coming Saturday.

After the Chiefs their tour gets tougher as they face the Crusaders in Christchurch, Brumbies in Canberra and the Waratahs in Sydney on consecutive weekends. At least they have the Blues match behind them.

Cheetahs squad:

Backs: Hennie Daniller, Eddie Fredericks, Gavin Passens, Herkie Kruger/Jongi Nokwe (Kruger has a back injury and Nokwe is on standby), JW Jonker, Meyer Bosman, Hendrik Meyer, Jacques-Louis Potgieter, Conrad Barnard, Falie Oelschig, Tewis de Bruyn.

Forwards: Duanne Vermeulen, Darron Nell, Juan Smith (c), Heinrich Brussow, Kabamba Floors, Barend Pieterse, Rory Duncan, David de Villiers, Flip van der Merwe, Wian du Preez, Ronnie Uys, CJ van der Linde, Kobus Calldo, Adriaan Strauss, Richardt Strauss.
